Opening of a technology center in the USA and South America

There is already one in Tübingen and a second was recently completed in China: A Walter technology center. The USA and Brazil are two countries that have recently been added as locations for these centers while South Korea and Japan will soon be part of the plan. Walter's objective is to open technology centers in all strategically important markets, so that they can offer added value for their customers and partners in any location.

"We are extremely happy to now also be able to expand our expertise in the USA and South America. We can therefore offer our customers and partners across the world even better services," says Mirko Merlo, President of Walter Group in Tübingen.

The technology center that is located in Waukesha in Wisconsin (two hours north of Chicago) in the USA is the largest Walter technology center in the world and its main purpose is to present new machining processes to customers and business partners. An area of 40,000 square feet (3,700 square meters) houses an auditorium for 280 people, 30 work stations, a large machine room with two machining centers, a lathe and space for three other machines, along with three conference rooms and a large cafeteria.

The second focus of the American technology center is the communication of expertise to Walter dealers. The interactive training sessions and workshops are enhanced by multimedia product shows. Exhibitions, showrooms and all-day product presentations should leave a lasting impression and allow people to experience Walter's expertise first-hand: The technology center is a meeting point for employees, sales partners and customers.

Brazil was the first choice for opening a technology center in South America. In Sorocaba, Walter moved into new buildings and, in one step, the technology center came into being. The doors opened at the start of October.

In the training center, presentations and training units are carried out and prototypes of customer components are manufactured. Processes can be tested and immediately optimized. In addition to the focus on training and information, the technology center also focuses on promoting young talent. The objective is, in coordination with universities and institutes of technology, to inform future technology-minded employees about the innovative cutting technology on offer from Walter.
